Resumen

El acceso desigual a la atención médica entre los diferentes grupos raciales de Estados Unidos (EE.UU.) es un problema persistente. 1-2 La discriminación racial, que tiene una relación compleja con los resultados sanitarios, 3-4 se ha asociado con un menor acceso a procedimientos, una menor calidad de atención, 6 una menor satisfacción del paciente 2 y una mayor prevalencia de enfermedades. 7-8 El modelo conceptual 4 de Paradies et al 4 vincula la discriminación racial con los resultados sanitarios negativos mediante tres mecanismos: 1) una privación de recursos que resulta en condiciones de vida adversas, y en una disminución de la calidad y acceso a la atención médica; 2) condiciones de estrés psicológico que desencadenan conductas negativas, respuestas fisiológicas de estrés y síntomas psicológicos; y 3) mayor cantidad de experiencias de ataques violentos.
